Our Dandy Bag - Inlet Protection System is a product used to keep silt, sediment and various debris from entering a storm system. You can use this product with flat grates (including round) and mountable curbs to filter out storm water that is sludgy and sediment filled. The suspended solids are settled out of the slowed flow and are held by the bag before entering the inlet. This helps to ensure ongoing compliant level performance.

This Dandy Bag is available in 17 sizes that fit most any municipal inlet. These bags are easy to install, inspect, and maintain and can be used many times.

Installation and Maintenance Guidelines

Installation:

  • Empty Dandy Bag should be placed over the grate as the grate stands on end.
  • If using optional oil absorbents, place absorbent pillow in pouch on bottom of unit and attach pillow to tether loop.
  • Holding the lifting device (do not rely on lifting device to support entire weight of grate), place the grate into its frame.

    • Maintenance:

    • Remove all accumulated sediment and debris from the surface and vicinity of the unit after each storm event.
    • If using optional oil absorbents, place absorbent pillow in pouch on bottom of unit and attach pillow to tether loop.
    • If using optional oil absorbents, remove and replace absorbent pillow when near saturation.

An Inlet Filter is a temporary solution for trapping sediment when the soil has been disrupted. Also, these filters will keep the soil out of storm drains when it's raining. In turn, this is critical for protecting the drinking water used by the city. Inlet filters are in place to keep silt from entering the inlets, storm drains, and recovery channels.

Inlet filters are commonplace on construction sites where the soil is continually disturbed while preventing construction debris from encountering and mixing with groundwater. If the filter is small enough, it can allow water to pass through while capturing dirt, silt, and other debris no matter how fast the water might flow. These inlet filters play a very important role in many operations due to their ability to keep water free of contaminants.

What Kind Of Inlet Filter Will You Need?

There are many different kinds of inlet filters to choose from depending on the water flow which ranges from low to medium to high current speeds. The filter you need will depend on the size of your project. If your project includes basins, there's an inlet filter designed for just that purpose.
