Our Dandy Bag - Inlet Protection System is a product used to keep silt, sediment and various debris from entering a storm system. You can use this product with flat grates (including round) and mountable curbs to filter out storm water that is sludgy and sediment filled. The suspended solids are settled out of the slowed flow and are held by the bag before entering the inlet. This helps to ensure ongoing compliant level performance.

This Dandy Bag is available in 17 sizes that fit most any municipal inlet. These bags are easy to install, inspect, and maintain and can be used many times.

You Can Control Sediment Using An Inlet Filter

There are many inlet filter systems on the market to choose from but understanding how and when they should be used is another issue. We will go over some aspects of these filters to help you choose the right one for your project.

About An Inlet Filter

An Inlet Filter is a temporary solution for trapping sediment when the soil has been disrupted. Also, these filters will keep the soil out of storm drains when it's raining. In turn, this is critical for protecting the drinking water used by the city. Inlet filters are in place to keep silt from entering the inlets, storm drains, and recovery channels.

Inlet filters are commonplace on construction sites where the soil is continually disturbed while preventing construction debris from encountering and mixing with groundwater. If the filter is small enough, it can allow water to pass through while capturing dirt, silt, and other debris no matter how fast the water might flow. These inlet filters play a very important role in many operations due to their ability to keep water free of contaminants.

What Kind Of Inlet Filter Will You Need?

There are many different kinds of inlet filters to choose from depending on the water flow which ranges from low to medium to high current speeds. The filter you need will depend on the size of your project. If your project includes basins, there's an inlet filter designed for just that purpose.

There are other inlet filters for stormwater protection and designed as inlet tubes. These tubes are either weighted or non-weighted.

The weighted tubes do not require being staked in order to stay in place. These tubes are normally placed on top of gravel, asphalt, or other hard materials. Weighted tubes work best on construction sites where construction vehicles are traveling around openings where water continually enters. Non-weighted tubes are normally tied down with stakes in various locations including brush or grasslands.

You can build a barrier by placing fabric that is porous around the inlet creating a shield to stop sediment while still allowing water to move through the drain. There are filters that are specifically designed to catch certain industrial or commercial pollutants including metals, hydrocarbons, and where other BMPs like pre-treatment for certain contaminants before moving the water through and into ground aquifers.

Even though there are many different kinds of inlet filters on the market and different ways to utilize them, For erosion control and stopping the spread of harmful contaminants, it's still considered a good idea to consult with a professional who is knowledgeable about inlet filters before signing off on a project.
