  • Holding the lifting straps, insert the grate into the inlet.
  • Maintenance:

    •  Remove all accumulated sediment and debris from vicinity of the unit after each storm event.
    • After storm event and at regular intervals, look into Dandy Sack. If containment area is more than 1/3 full of sediment, the unit must be emptied.

Curb Inlet Filters: An Overview

Stormwater creates a greater risk to our lives and the environment than most of us realize. It carries pollutants into our sewer systems and contaminates our waterways.

The Importance Of Curb Inlet Filters

To manage stormwater is controlling the sediment and the best way to make that happen and prevent sediment from polluting the drainage systems is to utilize a curb inlet filter. The filter will allow water to flow naturally but will prevent all of the dredges from going along for the ride, even during severe storms. The curb inlet filter is made of a permeable material so water will drain quickly so you avoid solving one problem while creating another one. Your streets will not pond or flood. The filter is an excellent choice because it's not complicated and very easy to install.

It's difficult enough when a serious storm halts your construction project, but returning to the site to find a flooded mess is something that no one wants to deal with. The solution might sound too simple, but if you can provide the water an escape without bringing along pollutants. It will help prevent flooding because it's not caused by the water, it's caused by the blockage to the drainage systems brought on by what water is bringing along with it. Considering curb inlet filters will not set your job back any further than is absolutely necessary.

Be Cautious Of Certain Kinds Of Curb Inlet Filters

Average curb inlet products can lead to other issues. Usually, sandbags are used but they are cumbersome and can get broken and cause their own problems. Some issues can include causing front-end damage to a car passing by as well as possible alignment damage and because the situation was preventable, you could be liable for these damages when you were only trying to protect the environment.

On top of that, a more serious situation could be caused by the broken sandbag scattering and presenting a dangerous condition to speeding cars passing by. Once that sandbag bursts, the drain is more likely to end up loaded with sand which is the complete opposite of what you were trying to accomplish.

Also, there is another safety issue involving your site because water is pooling causing more than just damage. Pooling water can increase the chances of an accident when workers try to make their way through and get on to what they have to do. This can lead to many accidents including slipping, tripping, and falling.

A curb inlet filter is perfect for non-grated curb inlets but there are many other products if you do not have a use for this filter. Various styles of inlet filters are available. If you have an inlet hole, grate, or something else, there's a good chance there is a product you can get to cover up a hole or grate to prevent sediment, oil, or other pollutants from making their way into your stormwater.
